Actually, I was somewhat disappointed. Obama would say something and then McCain would essentially mirror it with different words.
rofl i left a note to that effect on brendan's diary: i figured one of the reasons mccain wanted to postpone the debate was because he knew he wouldn't be able to parrot obama when he's right there; he'd never get away with it (and hopefully didn't).
i think mccain just doesn't know what he believes anymore, so he's trying to go the appeasal route: obama's more popular, therefore if he agrees with what's popular (which he's done for so long - war in iraq, anyone?), he might pull more of the vote.
i hope people are smart enough to see through that, but...yah, they're probably not.
McCain was over the top as far as being condescending goes. It came off as old-man-ish and trite. I was like "we get it, you don't think Obama gets it because he's younger and has only been a community organizer and a senator while you've been around since the Flintstones."
At one point I could see him irritating Obama to the point where Obama started to stammer a bit and I thought that would get highlighted a lot more in the news but it was somewhat glossed over for the sheer fact that Obama held his own quite well in a place where McCain is at his best.
he definitely upped the condescension, and that grin he had every time obama spoke i just wanted to smack right off his pear-shaped squirrel-face. he seems to think that his experience is the ace in the hole, but obama completely served him on that one; he was so poised, confident, and on-the-ball, and even when he did stammer, you could tell it was out of frustration far more than a lack of knowing what to say.
One other thing I hate about McCain is that he's a lot like GWB in that he tries to be cute but it comes off as monkeyish and sniveling.
ROFLMFAO
My favorite part was when Obama turned to McCain and called him out:
that happened more than once, too. i loved when he did it with regard to 'supporting the veterans'; he's like, 'you know as well as i do, john, it was about the
timetable; it had nothing to do with the money.'
hehehe
(yes, that was paraphrased; i'll see if i can find the transcript.)
i cannot waaaaaaaaaait for biden to rip palin a new one. the VP debate is gunna be so priceless, they're going to have to use it in the mastercard commercials.
